# Build quote sections

> Organize your quote into product sections and plan sections with phases

Every line of a quote belongs to a section. Use product sections for one-off products, such as setup fees or hardware, and plan sections for recurring products, such as subscriptions. Plan sections are split into phases, so you can model ramp-ups or price changes over time.

## Prerequisites

* The quote is editable
* Your catalog contains one-off products (for product sections) or recurring products (for plan sections)

## Add a section

In the **Quote** section of the editor:

* Click **+ Product section** for one-off products, or **+ Plan section** for recurring products. The **Add a line** window opens so you can pick the section's first products.
* Click **+ Import bundle** to add the products of a bundle as sections.

The buttons stay available below your existing sections, so you can add as many sections as you need.

## Configure a section

**1. Open the section settings**

Click the **Section settings** icon (or **Plan settings** for a plan section) in the section header.

**2. Set the title and type**

* **Title**: the section name shown to the customer
* **Billing frequency** (plan sections only): how often the plan is billed, for example monthly or yearly
* **Type**: **Standard** (always included) or **Optional** (the customer chooses whether to include it). For an optional section, turn on **This optional pack is selected** to preselect it for the customer.

**3. Choose what the customer sees**

* **Hide line item's price details**: the price columns stay empty for this section
* **Hide subtotal**: hides the section subtotal
* **Metadata**: click **Add** to store key/value pairs on the section

**4. Save**

Click **Save** in the window, then **Save** in the header.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In an optional section, the lines aren't billed unless the customer includes the section in the Dealroom ("Include this optional section in the offer").

## Build phases in a plan section

A plan section contains one or more phases. Each phase has its own lines, start, and end.

**1. Set when the phase starts**

In the phase's **Estimated date**, choose the start:

* **Sign day**: the day the quote is signed
* **Delay**: a number of **days** after the sign day
* **Date**: a fixed date

Later phases can start at the end of the previous one (**← Previous phase end**).

**2. Set when the phase ends**

Choose the end:

* **Forever**: the phase never ends
* **Duration**: a number of **Days**, **Weeks**, **Months**, or **Years**, or a **Preset** (**1 month**, **6 months**, **1 year**, **2 years**, **3 years**)
* **Date**: a fixed end date

**3. Add lines to the phase**

Click **+ Add a line** in the phase and select recurring products.

**4. Add more phases**

Click **+ Add a phase** to add the next phase. You can't add a phase after a phase that never ends ("The last phase has no end; you cannot add another phase after it.").

Use the phase icons to **Duplicate phase** or **Remove phase**. A phase with no end can't be duplicated.

## Reorder, duplicate, or remove sections

* **Move section**: drag the section handle to change the order
* **Duplicate section**: copies the section with its lines
* **Remove section**: deletes the section and its lines
