# Configure line items

> Make lines optional, let customers change quantities, set limits, and change a line's pricing model

Each quote line has settings that control what your customer can do with it in the Dealroom, and how it's priced. You change them from the icons at the end of the line.

## Prerequisites

* The quote is editable
* The line is already in a section. See [Add products and options](https://docs.qwoty.io/user-guide/quotes/how-tos/add-products-and-options.md)

## Set the line options

**1. Open Line settings**

Click the **Line settings** icon on the line. The **Line item option** window opens.

**2. Choose the options**

| Option | Effect |
| - | - |
| **Optional Product** | Allow customer to add or remove this item from the quote. The line shows an **Optional** badge. |
| **Preselect product** | Preselect the item by default (for optional lines) |
| **Free Quantity** | Allow customers to manage quantity in the Dealroom. The line shows a **Quantity Editable** badge. |
| **Set maximum and minimum quantity** | Limits the quantity with **Min item** and **Max item**. Leave **Max item** empty for no limit. |
| **Pay-as-you-go** | This line item is not invoiced (usage-based billing). It shows a **Pay as you go** badge for the customer. |

**3. Save**

Click **Save**, then **Save** in the header.

> [!NOTE]
>
> When the section is in **Optional** mode, its lines aren't billed regardless of these settings, unless the customer includes the section.

## Edit the line content

Click the **Edit line** icon to change, for this quote only:

* **Product Name** and **Description**
* **Product info**: **SKU**, **Unit**, **Unit per pack**, and **VAT**
* **Asset**: files attached to the line

Click **Save**. The product in your catalog isn't changed.

## Change the pricing model of a line

Click the pricing icon next to the line's unit price (**Edit pricing model**) to choose how this line is priced:

| Model | Description |
| - | - |
| **Flat** | A simple price (**Amount**) |
| **Volume** | All units are priced based on the final tier reached |
| **Graduated** | Tiers apply progressively as quantity increases |
| **Cost based** | Unit price based on the **Cost price** multiplied by the **Cost multiplier** |
| **% Percent** | Unit price is a percentage of other lines. **Apply on** **All products**, a **Product type**, a **Product**, or **Product categories** |
| **None** | The list price is 0 |

For **Volume** and **Graduated**, define the **Tiers** with **First unit**, **Last unit**, **Price by unit**, and **Flat Fee**. Use **No limit** for the last tier. Click **Save**.

> [!TIP]
>
> If a minimum unit price is defined for the product, the line shows **Minimum unit price:** as a reminder.

## Other line actions

* **Duplicate line**: adds a copy of the line below it
* **Remove line**: deletes the line
* **Move line**: drag the handle to reorder lines in the section
