# Languages and localization

> Understand how languages work in Qwoty: back office, templates, products, contract models, and the Dealroom.

Qwoty doesn't have a translation screen. Instead, **language is a property of your records**: each template, product, and contract model has its own language. To sell in several languages, you create one version of a record per language, for example one template in English and one in French.

This page explains where each language setting lives and what it controls.

## Where languages are set

| Where | Setting | What it controls |
| - | - | - |
| Your profile (user menu › Profile) | **Language**, **Locale**, **Timezone** | The language of the back office for you, and how dates, times, and numbers are formatted |
| **Settings › Workspace › General** | **Back office locale**, **Time zone** | The workspace defaults for the back office |
| **Template › Overview** | **Language**, **Date, time and number format** | The language of quotes created from the template: the Dealroom and the quote PDF |
| **Product** | **Language** | The language of the product, used to filter products when you add lines to a quote |
| **Contract model** | **Language** | The language of the contract text |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The back office is available in English and French. The Dealroom and quote PDFs are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

## Quote language

A quote takes the **Language** of its template when you create it. You can see it in the quote sidebar, in the **Settings** tab. You can't change the language of an existing quote: to send a quote in another language, create it from a template in that language.

The Dealroom follows the quote language. For example, if the template is in French, your customer sees the Dealroom sections, buttons, and the signature pages in French.

## Set the language of a template

**1. Open the template**

In the main navigation, click **Template**, then open the template.

**2. Choose the language**

In **Overview**, select the **Language**, and the **Date, time and number format** that matches your customers' region.

**3. Save**

Click **Save**. New quotes created from this template use this language.

## Set the language of a product

**1. Open the product**

Go to **Products & pricing › Products** and open the product.

**2. Choose the language**

In the section **Type, unit and language**, select the **Language**.

**3. Save**

Click **Save**.

When you add lines to a quote, the **Add a line** window lets you filter products by **Language** (or show **All languages**).

## Set the language of a contract model

Open the contract model in **Content › Contract Models** and select its **Language** in the general information. When you add contract models to a quote, the selection list shows the language of each model, so you can pick the one that matches the quote.

## Multilingual setup

To sell in several languages:

1. Create one template per language, each with the right **Language** and format.
2. Create products in each language, or name them so sales reps can recognize them.
3. Create one contract model per language.
4. Link each team to the templates it should use. See [Manage teams](https://docs.qwoty.io/user-guide/settings/users/manage-teams.md).
