# API tokens

> Create and manage the API tokens that authenticate calls to the Qwoty API.

API tokens let your own systems call the Qwoty API. Each token belongs to the workspace and has a **Role**, which determines what the token can do.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need a role with the **Developers** settings permission to manage API tokens. See [Permissions reference](https://docs.qwoty.io/user-guide/settings/users/reference/permissions.md).

## Open the API tokens page

**1. Open Settings**

Click **Settings** in the main navigation.

**2. Open API Tokens**

In the **Developer** section, click **API Tokens**.

The list shows each token with its **Name**, **Token** (only the first characters), **Role**, **Last Used**, and **Created** date.

## Create a token

**1. Click Create API Token**

Click **Create API Token** at the top of the page.

**2. Name the token**

Enter a **Token Name** that helps you identify it, for example the name of the system that uses it. Names must be unique in the workspace.

**3. Choose the role**

Select the **Role**. "The role determines the permissions for this token." Pick a role that only grants what the integration needs.

**4. Create**

Click **Create Token**.

**5. Copy the token**

Click **Copy Token** and store the token in a safe place, then click **Close**.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Qwoty shows the full token only once. After you close the window, you can't display it again. If you lose it, delete the token and create a new one.

## Delete a token

In the **Actions** column of the token, click **Delete** and confirm. Calls that use this token stop working immediately.

## Use the token

Send the token in the `Authorization` header of your API calls. See [Authentication](https://docs.qwoty.io/developers/authentication.md) for the details and examples.

> [!TIP]
>
> API tokens can be added to teams, like users. See [Manage teams](https://docs.qwoty.io/user-guide/settings/users/manage-teams.md).
